I embroidered the wreath using long-armed cross stitch, sometimes referred to as Greek embroidery stitch. For more information on this stitch, you can find my class handout here:

Since the wreath is green on red, I decided to outline it with metallic gold. I outlined the stem using a backstitch and the leaves using a double running stitch. Why the two stitches? I just felt like it. 😄
You can also see how changing the direction of the stitches changes the texture between the leaves and stem

The first evening's work
The stem is done on the left sprig.
The end of the first spool of silk.

I miscounted on one of the leaves and had to redo it. Can you spot which one?

Finished the embroidery. This is when I really wish life had a save point, so that if something goes wrong with making the cap, I could start over from this point.
