Here are the steps I took to chart the various badges for the pouch, using the Purple Fret badge as the example.
Decide the length and width of the pattern you want.
Determine how many stitches tall and wide the pattern will be by multiplying the length and width by the number of stitches per inch of your cloth. (Round to the nearest whole number.)
Determine the length and width of the graph paper grid made up of the number of stitches in step 2.
Size the picture to the measurements found in step 3 and print.
Trace the design on the graph paper.
Adjust the lines of the design to follow the grid of the graph paper.
I decided to create a Purple Fret badge that is 1.25” by 1.25”.
The aida cloth I used is 14 stitches per inch.
Length: 1.25 x 14 = 17.5 -> 17
Width: 1.25 x 14 = 17.5 -> 17
I rounded down because the design works better with an odd number.
With the graph paper I used, 17 squares equals approximately 3.5”.
I sized the badge file to 3.5” by 3.5”. (See below.)
I traced the badge on the graph paper.
I adjusted the lines to follow the graph paper grid.
Fret badge sized to 3.5" by 3.5" using Word, Paint, or similar program and then printed.
The printed badge traced on to the graph paper and then adjusted to be made up of whole squares, instead of diagonal lines.
The stitched badge. The aida cloth was actually slightly wider than it was tall, so the result was oblong instead of circular.
